Do you want to experience and see as much as possible on your Costa Rica vacation? Then you should definitely do a round trip. You will pass mighty volcanoes, observe a wide variety of exotic animals in the rainforest, experience adrenaline rushes while rafting and relax on one or more of the country’s dream beaches.
The starting point of a Costa Rica round trip is usually the pulsating metropolis of San José – simply because this is where the international airport is located and most travelers plan both the start and end of their trip here. After landing you can get a taste of Latin America in San José and plunge straight into the fray. You quickly realize that the Costa Ricans are all very nice and you want more.
If you don’t arrive in San José, you can start your round trip in any other place. In most places you can arrange for a rental car to be picked up or order a transfer by shuttle. A Costa Rica round trip can also be great e.g. B. combine with a trip to neighboring Nicaragua or Panama. If you are traveling with a rental car, you can return it in Costa Rica and, for example, take one of the intercity buses to get across the border. There it is possible to pick up another rental car or to continue the journey by shuttle or bus. No matter what means of transport you use, a detour to the colorful neighboring countries is always worthwhile.
Capital San José – Costa Rican metropolis with flair Having
landed at the airport in San José, a closer visit to the capital of Costa Rica is worthwhile. Here you can stroll leisurely through the market or visit the National Museum. The small restaurants with original Costa Rican food invite you to visit, which is guaranteed to be worthwhile. After a relaxing night in the hotel, the discovery tour can start the next morning.
Poás Volcano – it couldn’t be more spectacular
Near San José is one of the most spectacular volcanoes in Costa Rica. The summit of Poás offers an impressive sight and is reminiscent of a rugged lunar landscape. Poás has two crater lakes – take a look inside and marvel at the turquoise blue water. But be careful, you are standing in front of one of the most acidic crater lakes in the world!
Dense cloud forest – discover unique flora and fauna
Afterwards the tour can continue into the surrounding cloud forest. Gather first impressions of the green oasis of Costa Rica here. To get even closer to the rainforest, it is worth taking a trip to the lowland rainforest. Follow in the footsteps of Costa Rican animals and observe brightly colored birds, friendly sloths and screeching monkeys.
Pure rainforest – in Tortuguero on animal observation
From here it is not far to the northern Caribbean. In the Tortuguero National Park, a mystical rainforest awaits you, criss-crossed by numerous rivers and canals that invite you to take exciting boat trips. Discover the inhabitants of the rainforest from the boat, as well as the rich flora. The nesting of the sea turtles offers a special highlight of the national park. Because several endangered species, such as the leatherback turtle, have found a home here.
Caribbean flair – who doesn’t want to put their feet in the salty sea?
Further along the Caribbean coast you will experience picture-perfect beaches! Palm trees sway in the breeze, the water shines in deep turquoise and the warm sand under your feet invites you to take a leisurely break.
Rincón de la Vieja National Park – geysers and bubbling mud pools
After this deep relaxation you are freshly strengthened for a trip to the dry forests of the Rincón de la Vieja. Here you can marvel at unique vegetation and pass geysers and picturesque waterfalls on various hiking trails.
Rough Pacific – best conditions for surfing
It’s only a short hop to the Pacific coast. Try surfing the waves of the Pacific or embark on an underwater journey while snorkeling. Because the underwater world of Costa Rica also has a lot to offer with coral reefs, colorful schools of fish and the singing of humpback whales.
After an eventful round trip through Costa Rica, you will return to San José with many colorful memories in your luggage.
