Kayak tour in Costa Rica

Silently gliding through the mangroves

There is hardly a more considerate and at the same time more relaxed way to explore the nature of Costa Rica than kayaking. Driven only by your own muscle power, you glide almost silently over the water. Whether paddling through the rainforest of Tortuguero, through the mangrove forests of the South Pacific coast or in the open sea along the coast of Guanacaste – kayaking gives you a very intense experience of nature.

While the engine noise of other boats tends to frighten the animals, kayaking gives you the opportunity to approach monkeys, lizards and birds very carefully and, with a little luck, catch a glimpse from up close. In Costa Rica, kayak tours are offered both in rivers and in the coastal towns in almost all parts of the country. There are particularly popular paddling tours on the Caribbean coast next to Tortuguero in the Cahuita National Park, which can be combined with a hike or snorkeling tour. Kayaking on Lake Arenal is also highly recommended, as there is a spectacular view of the Arenal Volcano from there in good weather. We are happy to recommend places and providers for kayak tours in Costa Rica that are on your itinerary.

Kayaking - I should know that

The starting times of the tours vary depending on the provider. It is usually worth leaving early in the morning, as the chances of seeing animals are particularly high in the early hours of the morning.

The tours vary in length depending on the provider. It is therefore not possible to make a general time statement.

Average physical fitness is sufficient. However, paddling on the open sea or on Lake Arenal can be strenuous, depending on the currents and wind.

You should feel comfortable in the element of water and be able to swim. Of course you will be equipped with a life jacket and accompanied by an experienced guide. Always follow the instructions of your guide, then you can enjoy kayaking worry-free.

Kayaking is suitable for almost all ages, but not for young children. The minimum age varies depending on the provider.
